The prolific and beloved and controversial pioneer activist of leather politics and leather literature Larry Townsend passed July 28, 2008. A leather icon, Townsend was the author of dozens of books including Run Little Leather Boy (1970) and The Leatherman´s Handbook (1972).

There is a nice obituary by Townsend’s friend and fellow BDSM writer Jack Fritscher at Lolita Wolf’s blog.

For many you opened doors, sparked imaginations and guided us when we knew not where to go. With much due respect Sir, we wish you well on your journey. . .

This weekend is going to be a busy one, the Daddy Contest at the Eagle, Bears in Gear at Chaps II, Bearracuda at Deco Lounge and the climax of the weekend Up Your Alley (aka Dore Alley). Here is a list of ideas that can help plan your weekend.

• Friday July 25, 2008 SF Leather Daddy contest 8pm-11pm @ The Eagle Tavern (398 12th St) BOSF has one of its own running for the title, so come on out and support Ray Middling as he competes for the title of SF Leather Daddy XXVI (26).
• Saturday July 26, 2008 South Bay Bears host a Beverage Benefit 3pm-7pm @ The Lone Star Saloon (1354 Harrison) Don?t be shy ask a South Bay Bear about “Bears in the Woods”. This is their annual event where you will have a great time and learn what bears really do in the woods.
• Bears in Gear 9pm-2am @ Chaps II (1225 Folsom) This is the first time BOSF is hosting the Bears in Gear night at chaps (No Mr. International Cub you do not have to sell raffle tickets). This is more educational for others to find out what BOSF is about and ask questions, find out what other members think and even join if they wish.
• Bearracuda 9pm-3am @ the Deco Lounge (510 Larkin) This is the special UYA UnderBear party with three floors to explore. Come on out in your most festive undies, they have a clothes check up stairs and a smoking patio out back until midnight.
• Sunday July 27, 2008 Up Your Alley (UYA) aka Dore Alley the festivities run 11am-6pm on Folsom between 9th and 10th street

From the Vienna CSD parade 2007, called Regenbogenparade (rainbowparade). I’m in front of the bikers group with the rainbow and the leather pride flag on my Cruiser. This coming weekend is the 12th celebration in Vienna.

For more than 11 years, Sepp has lived with his partner Frank in Vienna. Social responsibility in the fetish scene and social areas are a priority for these two motorbike and Bicycle riders. Sepp is a co-founder of the gay leather and motorcycle community – LMC Vienna.

When we launched The Complete Bear and later The Twisted Bear, I knew this wasn’t going to be just any ole day job. First and foremost, we get to go shopping for a living. Something, I seem to have been practicing for my entire life. Second, we get to meet and socialize with some very large furry men, who seem to have no qualms about showing us parts of their anatomy – hey, it’s a job!! And don’t forget the leather. WOOF!

But never would I have expected to find myself in the bowels of the SF Armory, world headquarters of Kink.com. OK, maybe I’ve been in a dungeon or two or four or (now, stop that, I’m not that bad), but Kink.com is primarily a “straight” studio – though they are home to Butt Machine Boys and the forth coming Bound Gods (yes, I’ll keep you posted).
